Slack

Drive your CAD from Slack with your own Slack app: two tokens, no public address, no cost from SphereHarness. The desktop agent on your PC opens an outbound connection to Slack (Socket Mode) — nothing is opened on your network.

Slack: your own app talks straight to your PC; nothing passes through SphereHarness.

Slack works for you only (the account holder, by your Slack member ID). You write to the bot in a direct message, or @mention it in a channel it was invited to. A message from you continues the conversation in the SphereHarness chat on that PC, exactly as Teams, Telegram and WhatsApp do.

Create the Slack app (once, about five minutes)

  1. Open api.slack.com/apps → Create New App → From scratch; name it (for example SphereHarness) and pick your workspace.
  2. Socket Mode (left menu): switch Enable Socket Mode on. When asked, generate an App-Level Token with the scope connections:write. Copy it — it starts with xapp-.
  3. OAuth & Permissions → Bot Token Scopes: add exactly app_mentions:read, chat:write and im:history. (channels:history is not needed — the bot reads only direct messages and @mentions.)
  4. Event Subscriptions: switch Enable Events on (with Socket Mode no request URL is asked) and, under Subscribe to bot events, add app_mention and message.im. Save.
  5. App Home → Show Tabs: tick Messages Tab and Allow users to send Slash commands and messages from the messages tab.
  6. Install App → Install to Workspace. Copy the Bot User OAuth Token — it starts with xoxb-. (If you change scopes later, install again.)
  7. In Slack, open your own profile → the three dots → Copy member ID (like U01ABCDEF2G).
Treat both tokens like passwords: type them only into the password boxes of Settings → Channels → Slack, never into the chat. They are stored encrypted for your Windows user (DPAPI) and are never written to the settings file or any log.

Connect it in SphereHarness

  1. Open Settings → Channels on the PC, section Slack.
  2. Paste the xoxb- token and the xapp- token, type your member ID under Account holder (you), and press Connect. SphereHarness checks both tokens with Slack, saves them, and starts the channel; the status line reads connected (your workspace).
  3. In Slack, open the app (under Apps) and send it a message — it runs on this PC. For a channel: invite the app (/invite @SphereHarness) and write @SphereHarness ….

Disconnect turns the channel off and keeps the tokens. You can also ask the chat to set it up; the assistant never sees a token — you type those yourself.

Using it

A message from you continues the chat on that PC: the same AI session, your memories, the CAD chosen in the chat’s Target box. Your message appears there marked [from Slack] and the answer is shown there and sent back to Slack as plain text (long answers arrive in parts under 4,000 characters). /stop, /pause and /clear work as in the chat. Approvals are asked in the chat on the PC — nothing is approved for you. Anybody else gets a short refusal; they never reach your CAD.

Not yet: files and pictures are not sent to Slack (the reply says how many were left out; they are in the chat on the PC), and files you attach in Slack are not read.

With a coding agent on your own account

As for Telegram and WhatsApp: when the chat is answered by a coding agent signed in with your own account and no API key is set for it, Slack is not started unless you turn on Allow Telegram, WhatsApp and Slack with my coding agent (at my own risk) in Settings → Channels. See Channels & Messaging.

Troubleshooting

SymptomCause and fix
“Slack refused the tokens (invalid_auth)”A token was copied wrongly or revoked. Copy the xoxb- token from OAuth & Permissions and the xapp- token from Basic Information → App-Level Tokens
“Slack refused the tokens (missing_scope)”The app-level token needs connections:write; the bot token needs the three scopes above. Add them, then install the app again
Connects, but the bot never answers in a DMThe app needs the message.im event and the Messages Tab in App Home, and im:history
No answer to an @mention in a channelAdd the app_mention event, and invite the app to that channel
“This bot is not allowed to act for you yet”The member ID in Settings → Channels does not match your Slack account (use Copy member ID, not your display name)
Nothing at allThe messaging service is off, the desktop agent is not running, or — with a coding agent on your own account and no API key — Slack is off until you allow it in Settings → Channels
